About
The Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (KDSF) Johor Bahru Centre was established in 1991 by the Kiwanis Club of Johor Bahru to provide early intervention and education services for children with Down Syndrome in the Johor Bahru area. The center operates from a double-storey bungalow house and currently serves over 30 students with the support of five teachers.
Key services and programs offered by the KDSF Johor Bahru Centre include:
- Early Intervention Programme (EIP): Provides comprehensive support for infants and toddlers with Down Syndrome, including therapy, education, and parent training.
- School Age Programme: Offers educational programs for children with Down Syndrome aged 7-9 years old.
- Infant Stimulation Programme: Provides specialized therapy for infants with Down Syndrome aged 2 years and below, conducted by occupational therapists.
The KDSF Johor Bahru Centre relies heavily on public donations and the support of the Kiwanis Club of Johor Bahru to sustain its operations. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the center's fundraising efforts and has necessitated a shift to online teaching and counseling.
The center is always seeking additional funding and support to ensure that it can continue to provide its essential services to children with Down Syndrome in the Johor Bahru community.
